Araku Valley sits at around 900 metres in the Eastern Ghats and is about 115 km from Visakhapatnam. The drive takes roughly three to three and a half hours each way, so an early start is the secret to a relaxed day.
Best months
The pleasant season runs from October to February. Mornings are misty and cool, the hills are green after the monsoon and the coffee plantations look their best. March to May is warm, while June to September brings heavy rain and occasional landslides on the ghat road.
Suggested route
Leave Vizag by 5:30 or 6:00 AM, reach Borra Caves first when the crowds are thin, and then continue to Araku for lunch. After that, visit Padmapuram Gardens, the Tribal Museum and a coffee plantation. On the way back, stop at Katiki Waterfalls and Galikonda viewpoint.
Which cab is right?
A sedan is fine for two to four people. For families of five to seven with luggage, we recommend an Ertiga or Innova so everyone has room to enjoy the ghat views.
